Split Rock Lighthouse track chair guide

Choose Split Rock for a day on the North Shore. The summer track chair map marks a route past Pebble Beach and Little Two Harbors, where Ellingsen Island sits just offshore. A visit to the lighthouse itself takes a separate plan.

Choose a shoreline turnaround

On the DNR map, find Pebble Beach and junction D at Little Two Harbors. Follow the green trail overlay between them when planning your outing. Ask staff where to meet the chair and which junction makes a sensible turnaround for your reservation. Some paths drop toward the lake by stairs, including one in the cart-in campground inset.

Separate the shore visit from the lighthouse tour

The Minnesota Historical Society operates the lighthouse historic site and charges a separate admission fee. If your group wants both a shore outing and a tour, choose the chair time first, then check the historic site's hours, admission and accessible features. Leave time to return the chair before moving on.

Reserve during staffed hours

Use the DNR's Split Rock chair reservation link or call the park office through the park page. The park offers the chair during staffed office hours. Check the date and return time before setting out on Highway 61, especially if your visit depends on late-afternoon light over the lake.
