Your first track chair outing

Work backward from the place you want to see. These five checks connect the route on the map with the chair you’ll pick up at the park.

1. Pick a destination you can reach

Choose a park guide and open the official track chair map. Trace the whole trip, including the return. If a landmark sits beyond a marked segment, ask the park about that last stretch before making it the centerpiece of your day.

2. Reserve the chair and confirm pickup

Use the park-specific booking link in your guide. Save the confirmation and route map on your phone or print them. Confirm the pickup building, your return time, and where you can leave your own mobility device. Park hours and chair availability can differ.

3. Plan the transfer

The DNR provides a transfer board, but staff cannot assist with transfers. Bring a companion if you need help and any equipment you use for the transfer. At checkout, discuss which control setup works for you: left hand, right hand, or attendant. A waiver is required.

4. Check the vehicle permit separately

The chair loan is free. A vehicle entering the park normally needs a permit. The DNR lists a $7 day permit and a $35 annual permit. If you have qualifying disability documentation, check the reduced annual rate and what to bring before you buy. Check current permit rates and eligibility.

5. Make a day-of call

Ask the park: “Is the chair available for my reservation, and is the marked route to my destination open today?” If conditions have changed, ask which shorter marked segment is available. Leave time at both ends of the booking for setup and return.
