How we read the trail
Northwoods Fieldnotes is an independent planning guide for visitors who want to borrow an all-terrain track chair in northeast Minnesota.
Why these three parks?
Moose Lake, Jay Cooke and Split Rock Lighthouse form a useful comparison for someone traveling toward Duluth and along Lake Superior. Each has a published track chair map and an official reservation listing. The scope is deliberately regional; the DNR directory covers the rest of the state.
Where the information comes from
The park profiles are desk-researched from Minnesota DNR park pages, designated chair maps and linked reservation listings. Each profile links its sources. Map descriptions are planning notes, not firsthand trail assessments or promises about the surface on your visit.
When details disagree
Use the current park notice or speak to park staff before traveling. The park controls routes, availability and checkout; this guide cannot reserve a chair or change an existing booking. The guide is not affiliated with Minnesota DNR.
